Mary Polly married John Emmerson around 1779. They had two children, Margaret Emmerson born circa 1770, and John Comstock, born around 1773.
John Emmerson was killed during the Revolutionary War,1772-1776.
Polly's daughter, Margaret EMMERSON, later married a Thomas Stilnell (or Stillwell). This Thomas Stillwell is probably related to, but is not the same Thomas Stillwell who is the subject of the complicated Thomas Stillwell, d. 1819, Estate proceedings (1819 through 1825) recorded in Randolph County Courthouse, Asheboro, North Carolina. See the Abstract of 1819 Randolph County, NC, Estate Papers of Thomas Stillwell, in which all of William and Margaret Brown's children are named, except John #4.
Mary Williams Emmerson may have had a son, John Comstock, b. 1773 or 1783, before marrying James Brown in approximately 1786.
Mary married James Brown Sr. (b. 1757 in Rowan County, North Carolina) sometime before 1787. They joined the Jersey Baptist Church in 1797. Later, around 1807, they attended the Tom's Creek Baptist Church.
James Brown Sr. and Mary Polly Williams Brown had 9 children:
1. Jane Brown Hughes, b. 1784, married Michael Hughes
2. Mary (Polly) Brown Brown b. 1789, sealed to James S. Brown; d. 1876.
3- Nancy Brown Mills Newbury Critchlow b.1792; d. 1870
4- Susan Brown Jackson b.1793; md Sion Jackson Feb 26, 1803;
5- Martha Patsy Brown Boss b. 1794; md. David Boss
6- Obedience "Aunt Biddie" Brown Boss b.1799; md. Philip Boss II in 1818
7- William Brown b.1796 or 7; md. Frances Warren; d. 1884
8- Captain James Brown Jr. b. Sept 30, 1801; md. Martha Stephens and twelve other wives; d. Sept. 30, 1863,
9- Daniel Brown b.1804; md. Elizabeth Stephens; 8 Oct 1823; d. 1875.
All their children were born in Rowan County, North Carolina.
