| Augustus Hezekiah Brown was born on March 1, 1861 in Ogden (formerly Brownsville), Weber County, Utah. His father, Captain James Brown, of the U.S. Mormon Battalion Company C, died from an accident when Augustus was two and a half years old. His mother, Lavinia Mitchell Brown, remarried on January to John Horrocks.
Augustus had one sister from his parents union, Sarah Lavinia Brown, born October 21, 1858. Sarah married Joseph Drysdale. They had six children.
Augustus married Eliza Harriet Plant, born c.1866 at Walton, Northampton, England. Her parents are Charles Maversley Plant (1826-1909) and Rebecca Jones Plant of Thorney, Cambridgeshire, England. Eliza had one brother, John Plant, born c. 1849.
