Jane Brown was born around 1784 or 1787 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Jane is the daughter of James Brown Sr.(1753/1763-1823) and Mary Polly Williams Emerson Brown (1760-1827/1832)
Jane married Michael Hicks Hughes in North Carolina some time before 1787.
Michael Hughes acted as a bondsman at the marriage of Jane's younger sister, Martha "Patsy" Brown, when Martha married David Boss Sr. on November 25, 1821 at Rowan County, North Carolina. David is the son of Peter Boss and Mary Elizabeth Garner Boss.
Jane does not seem to have joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The census for Rowan and Davidson counties do not show her there in 1820, 1830, 1840, nor 1850. However, in 1850 Jane and her family are found in Jackson County, Indiana.
It is believed that Jane died between 1850 and 1858.
