Profesor y atleta.

Nació en Joquicingo, Estado de México, el 22 de agosto de 1892, falleció el 29 de diciembre de 1988 a la edad de 96 años víctima de un infarto cerebral en la ciudad de Toluca. Fue hijo de Aureliano Navas Villareal y Ascención Valdés Chávez.

Estudió el bachillerato en el Instituto Científico y Literario de Toluca. Obtuvo el título de profesor de gimnasia y esgrima en el Distrito Federal. Fue maestro de deportes en el Instituto Científico y Literario de Toluca, además de prefecto, bibliotecario y encargado de la dirección eventualmente.

Maestro de deportes en la Escuela de Artes y Oficios (EDAYO), en el Centro Atlético Obrero y en la Escuela Normal. Varias veces Director de Educación Física Federal.

Se le considera un atleta completo e impulsor del deporte profesional, ya que fue uno de los precursores del fútbol en la capital del estado y contribuyó a la formación del Club Deportivo Toluca.

Practicó una gran diversidad de deportes tales como el atletismo, fútbol, frontón -a mano, con pala y con raqueta-, gimnasia en aparatos, box, lucha greco-romana, natación, ciclismo y tiro con pistola.

Fue militar lo que le permitió ser instructor físico en diversas corporaciones militares y trabajar bajo las órdenes de Marcelo Caraveo, Abundio Gómez y Genovevo de la O.

Su constancia y disciplina en el deporte, hizo que a los 68 años obtuviera el título de Campeón Mundial de la Fuerza y la Salud.

Professor and athlete.

Filiberto was born in Joquicingo, State of Mexico, the 22nd of August of 1892, he passed away the 29th of December of 1988 at the age of 96 years, victim of a cerebral infarction, in the city of Toluca. He was son of Aureliano Navas Villareal and Ascención Valdés Chávez.

He received his Baccalaureate Degree from the Scientific and Literary Institute of Toluca. He obtained the title of Professor of gymnastics and fencing in the Federal District. He was master professor of sports at the Scientific and Literary Institute of Toluca, in addition to prefect, librarian, and in charge of the sports program's eventual direction.

Teacher of sports in the School of Arts and Oficios (EDAYO), in the Working Athlete Center and the Normal School. Several times Director of Federal Physical education.

A complete and impelling athlete of professional sports considers itself him, since he was one of the precursors of soccer in the State Capital and contributed to the formation of the Sport Club Toluca.

He practiced a great diversity of sports, such athletics as soccer, handball, racketball, pongpong, gymnastics in apparatuses (shotput, javelin, discus, trummel horse, rings, etc.), boxing, greco-Roman wrestling, swimming, cycling and pistol shooting.

He was a military man which allowed him to be a physical instructor in diverse military corporations and to work under the orders of Marcelo Caraveo, Abundio Go'mez and Genovevo de la O.

His certainty and discipline in sports caused that at 68 years of age he was given the title of World-wide Champion of Strength and Health.

The Filiberto Navas Valdes Gold Medal is presented each year to Mexico's Athlete of the Year.

Filiberto Navas Valdez married Lucia Molina Zaldivar (b. December 13, 1896 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico) on March 6, 1916 in Toluca, Mexico. Lucia is the daughter of Dr. Everardo Molina Enriquez of Jilotepec Mexico, and Concepcion Zaldivar of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Filiberto and Lucia were the parents of Filiberto "Beto" Navas Molina (1919?-1947), Everardo Navas Molina (b.1921), Ascencion "Chonchon" Navas Molina Breitfelder (1923), Socorro Navas Molina Torrealba,(1926-1946), Eugenia Navas Molina Nava (1927-2002), Enriqueta "Queta" Navas Molinia Bernaldez (b. 1928)
