Elder LaSelle Taylor and Elder Samuel Keith Bowman were tracting their first day in Toluca when they walked across the street from their "Casa de Oracion" to a large athletic park. They went into a big gymnasium and were greeted by Senor Filiberto Navas de Valdez, head of the Athletic Department of the State of Mexico. They told him they were missionaries. Bowman had made a name for himself by playing basketball on some local award winning teams. Senor Navas challenged the missionaries to throw a shotput. After some joustling and good humored competition Senor Navas told the Elders that he had a son that was athletic like them and that he wanted to introduce him to the Elders so they could associate together. "I want him to live a good clean life and be like you", he said. Elder S.Keith Bowman wrote that "When Aureliano Everardo Navas de Molina , nicknamed "Nano" came to meet us he was truly a good , handsome, big young man, physically fit, and very friendly. We became friends immediately and LaSelle and I took him home with us to talk and get better acquainted. He spent his free time with us and came to work with us in Toluca. Bertha and Nano really hit it off and fell in love. It was love at first sight."

After her release from her mission Bertha began to communicate through letters with the recently baptized "Nano" in Toluca. His name was Everardo Navas de Molina, nicknamed "Nano".  They were both very much in love and made a very handsome couple. Orson was relieved to see his Berthita find a good Mormon man to marry in the Temple.

Within two months of this marriage, Orson Pratt Brown died at the age of 83.  Bertha was devastated. She had been very close to her father all her life and would suffer terribly whenever he was gone from their home for any extended period of time. He was everything a father could be to a girl and her heart was partially buried with him.

Nano and Bertha returned to Mexico and Bertha soon took a job at a grand hotel where she made reservations and interpreted tourists in their needs.  She had a tremendous salary for being bilingual and she was such an attractive young lady.  Nano was with his physical education job.  Soon Bertha found out she was pregnant.  Their letters home were always about "Orhito", their expected baby's namesake for Orson (born "Lucia").  When Bertha had to quit her job in her 8th month, Nano took her to Toluca to live with his parents. She felt like she was a burden to the family especially when at dinnertime Nano's sister looked at her plate and said, "You sure eat a lot!"

Nano and Bertha were able to rent the living quarters that the elders and sister missionaries had and were not being used.  That was the break Bertha needed. Nano was now working in Puebla and only came on week-ends. Here she was safe as the chapel was always having services of different kinds and missionaries were always around. Bertha kept busy, living in a courtyard apartment on Las Calles de Plutarco Gonzalez Number 22 in Toluca. She was teaching English to business executives from the United States who wanted to do business in Mexico. She also did sewing and tailoring.

A year after the wedding, Bertha and Nano were blessed with a little girl, not the little "Orhito" they were expecting. They named her after Nano's mother, Lucia.

Bertha was becoming dissatisfied with the living arrangements, she lived in Toluca while Nano lived in Matamoros.  Bertha was used to being doted on by her father and her admirers. Now she was left alone to care for two babies. To make matters worse, her Nano's occupation kept him in the company of young girls in college that admired him. Some missionaries had told Bertha that he was escorting the queen of a certain event at the university where he taught.  Mary came to visit her and insisted that Bertha, Lucy and she take the bus to Puebla to check things out. When they arrived at the University the guard opened the door to Nano's apartment and let them in. Bertha saw a couple of letters on the desk and she read them – she confirmed what she was so worried about, Nano had an amorous admirer .  When Nano came into the apartment he greeted her passionately, as usual he picked her up. They walked out hand in hand and Mary was furious with them. Bertha really loved him and didn't face him with the letters.  After the visit Mary brought up the letters again and pressured her to rethink the marriage. She assisted Bertha in packing up her bags and daughters and moving to Dublán to live with her mother and grandmother Maria on the farm in Colonia Dublan. Bertha filed for a divorce, Nano would not agree. The divorce went through on July 4, 1952.

On October 31, 1952 Everardo married Norma Graciela Young in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
In November 1953 Bertha moved to Detroit, Michigan with her two daughters and her new second husband.

EVERARDO NAVAS MOLINA "NANO" emulates a great man of tradition and legend, son of Mr. FILIBERTO NAVAS VALDÉS, he was born, grew up, and appeared in sports similar to his father who served as an example and permanent dimension in sport history of the State of Mexico.

EVERARDO NAVAS MOLINA "NANO" emulator of other great men of tradition and legend, great friends from his childhood, Everardo Navas Molina brought his friends into sports, mainly to soccer, since he was an integral part of, and a representative of the infant industry of sports equipment to the School "URBAN FONSECA". He had companions that were ardent "network breakers", Serapio and Antonio Padilla, Porfirio Peña, Manuel Solís, ALBERTO "CABALLO" MENDOZA, José Luis Cano, Raúl Hurtado, José Luis Estrada, Manuel Hinojosa, Raúl Arizmendi, Gustavo Vargas, Manuel Zarco, Carlos López, among others; this occurred by the years of 1930-1935; many of these athletes appeared at local, state, national, and international levels, like the popular soccer player "EL CABALLO MENDOZA".

From 1937 to 1941, Everardo Navas Molina, while attending secondary school in Zamora, Michoacán, had the opportunity to continue practicing football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and other athletics. His sport feat was to be crowned champion of racquetball in Michoacán.

In 1941, also in the beautiful city of Zamora, one Saturday, the 30th of August, there was organized a special program to box sports stars in the Opera Theatre, to raise money for charity.

By the years from 1942-1944, Professor Everardo was honored as a racquetball player, being integral to the team of his gentleman father Ricardo Barraza, Eduardo López, Héctor Rocha, Guadalupe Jaimes, Luis Téllez, Juan Rodríguez, Carlos Zarza, David Pérez, Agustín Cejudo, Carlos Téllez, Albino Fabila, Herón --Blanquel, Juan Albarrán y Pedro Escudero, among others. 1575 ESSAYS

by Michel Eyguem de Montaigne
(1533-1592)

translated by Charles Cotton
II. Of the Education of Children

"Tis the custom of pedagogues to be eternally thundering in their pupil's ears, as they were pouring into a funnel, while the business of the pupil is only to repeat what the others have said: now I would have a tutor to correct this error, and, that at the very first, he should, according to the capacity he has to deal with, put it to the test, permitting his pupil himself to taste things, and of himself to discern and choose them, sometimes opening the way to him, and sometimes leaving him to open it for himself; that is, I would not have him alone to invent and speak, but that he should also hear his pupil speak in turn. Socrates, and since him Arcesilaus, made first their scholars speak, and then they spoke to them. "Obest plerumque iis, qui discere volunt, auctoritas eorum, qui docent." It is good to make him, like a young horse, trot before him that he may judge of his going and how much he is to abate of his own speed, to accommodate himself to the vigor and capacity of the other. For want of which due proportion we spoil all; which also to know how to adjust, and to keep within an exact and due measure, is one of the hardest things I know, and 'tis the effect of a high and well-tempered soul to know how to condescend to such puerile motions and to govern and direct them. I walk firmer and more secure up hill than down.

Such as, according to our common way of teaching, undertake, with one and the same lesson, and the same measure of direction, to instruct several boys of differing and unequal capacities, are infinitely mistaken; and 'tis no wonder, if in a whole multitude of scholars, there are not found above two or three who bring away any good account of their time and discipline. Let the master not only examine him about the grammatical construction of the bare words of his lesson, but about the sense and substance of them, and let him judge of the profit he has made, not by the testimony of his memory, but by that of his life."

Dear God:

By your infinite kindness,  I have arrived at this time of my life, which is:  The last age.

(The last stage of life.)

To this height, many have not been able to arrive, how different I see the life that I have traversed year after year as if there were steps ascending for each one of them, to arrive in my life to this place.

At this height of my life it is necessary to dedicate thanks to you, Sir, for everything I have and for what you continue to give me in this last stage of my life.

This is the time of life for prayer, the time of life for love and understanding.

Exempt me, Señor, to spend this precious and bravísimo time to discuss, to share and to need charity.

That I may never  be demanding of others, when I, Sir, with love, with patience and with amiability, must deal with the people near me, whom you gave to me.

At this time of my life, more than ever grateful, I must assay the generosity of those who dedicate days or hours of their life to taking care of me, in this time, although I do not want it to arrive, has become my old age.

The beautiful hours of my last age turn and are transformed into stars of different intensity, in the galaxy which I have crossed during my life, by the grace of kindness.

That in this last and present time, I will not show signs of anger but show kindness, that all exigency becomes patience to know how to suffer and to hold my tongue.

If from my eyes, a tear appears, it is fruit of Christian love for the generosity and care given to me in this last age.

And that when arriving in the end, the last moments of my life are for believing, to love and to hope, and that the last phrase from my lips is for praying, blessing, to request pardon and to pardon.
