Bishop Moroni Franklin Brown was born on September 23, 1857 at Fort Supply in the Utah Territory, later known as Uinta County, Wyoming. He was the second of eleven children born to James Morehead Brown and Adelaide Exervia Brown.
Moroni met, and later married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Weaver. Lizzie is the daughter of William Weaver and Ann Watkins Weaver, the ninth of fifteen children. Moroni and Lizzie married on November 29, 1883 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah in a double ceremony with Moroni's brother Francis Adora Brown and Lizzie's sister, Emily Ann Weaver.
