Maximilian reaches Mexico and becomes its Emperor. Jewish migration increases

1867

French troops withdraw from Mexico. Many French and Swiss soldiers remain in Mexico. A tribe of blonde, blue-eyed "Indians" remain in mountains.

1885 February

William C. McClellan, a Mormon Battalion veteran, was the first to cross the border into Mexico around 1884-1885. McClellan was instructed to establish a central camp for other immigrants. Here he met Senior Jose Maria Holguin, a very friendly man, who gave McClellan permission to use some of his land two miles north of La Ascension for a camp.

1885 January 13

Church President John Taylor after a conference in St. David, AZ appointed some men to act as land purchasing agents in Chihuahua, Mexico for the Church to prepare a refuge for saints that were vulnerable to arrest under the Edmunds law. Those who felt in danger, he said, should depart immediately to the valley of the Cases Grandes in Chihuahua.

1890 September 25

President Wilford Woodruff of the Mormon Church issued his "Manifesto" which declared an end to the contracting of plural marriages in the Church. Approved at Church conference in October.

1893 January 4

President of the U.S. Benjamin Harrison issued a proclamation of amnesty to those who had entered into polygamous marriages prior to November 1, 1890

Orson,43, fell fourteen feet and is crushed by five hundred-pound log. Breaks his neck, right shoulder, right elbow, several vertebrae, hip, skull cracked, etc. Nursed by wives Jane Galbraith and Bessie Macdonald. Received blessing from Brothers Charles Lillywhite, George Bunker, and Patriarch Jameson and is healed. (see "Faith Like the Ancient" by Lundwell pp 77-79.)

1912 August 30

450 Mormons, including O.P. Brown's families fled from the Morelos area to Douglas, AZ in sixty lumber wagons. One of his twin sons by Jane Galbraith, W. Galbraith Brown, 7, was thrown from one of the jolting wagons and crushed beneath a wheel, buried in Colonia Morelos. O.P was in El Paso fulfilling his calling to assist the thousands of displaced Mormons to find food and shelter, then later negotiated to receive compensation for their property in Mexico.

c. 1912 to 1915

Angela's family and their friends the Camarena family move to El Paso, Texas.

Together they buy a building that they use for many business ventures.

1915 February 15

Angela's father, Thomas Gavaldón, died at age of 41.

Orson loses his first four wives and divides all his property during the Exodus among his wives and his many children.

18 year old Angela married Orson Pratt Brown (using the Mexican translation of his own name "Silvestre Moreno") (55) in Las Cruces, Doña Ana, New Mexico. Josefina Camarena and M. Tovar were their witnesses.

1919 December 17

First child, Silvestre ("Orson") Gustavo Brown, born in Juarez, Mexico on Wednesday.

Angela was baptized by Nephi Thayne. Confirmed by Jose Ontiveros.

1932 September 24

Patriarch Joseph C. Bentley gave Angela her blessing in Colonia Dublán.

1935 July 2

Mary Angela was confirmed by her father after her baptism by Bro. Candido Carvajal who was in charge of baptisms at the Culto Verde Chapel.

Orson, 72, suffered a horse stampede on his buggy, lost one eye (wore a glass eye from then on), broke many bones, sustained great injuries. His mother had told him in 1906 accident that he would live to be 83 so he was confident of a recovery. Bertha accompanied him on train to hospital in El Paso and during his recovery.

1936 February 6

Sixth child, Heber Jedediah Brown, born in Colonia Dublán and died same day.

1940 July 29

Martha Gavaldón, Angela's sister's infant daughter was born and later adopted by Angela and Orson P. Brown

1944 May

Aaron graduated from Juaréz Stake Academy, first of Angela's children to do so.

1945 May 25

Mary Angela Brown graduated from Juárez Academy just after Orson's 82^nd birthday three days before. They had a big double celebration. Second of two of Orson's children to do so. Mary graduated a year ahead of schedule.

1946 January 18

Bertha Brown married Everardo Navas de Molina (11-01-1921)

Pauly G. Brown married Lilia Gonzalez (8-19-1927)

Double wedding, sealed in Mesa, Arizona Temple. Eliza Skousen Brown and her daughters Anna, Elizabeth, and Gwen provided a nice reception afterwards.

1946 March 10

Orson P. Brown died at age of 83, Angela was 45 1/2 years old.

Angela continued to live in the farmhouse on the Dublán farm.

1946 November 6

Arwell Pierce knelt as proxy for Orson to have his family sealed together in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. One account names Pauly, Aron and Mary only. No mention of Gustavo, Heber, or Martha.
Bertha was sealed to Orson 11-2-1968.

1948 December 29

Angela's eldest son, Gustavo (29) married Emma Gloria Tarin (4-30-1925/ 23).

With the help of her son Aron, Angela left her house and farm in Dublán, moved to El Paso and moved into the house at 5504 Paraguay, TX 79925

Angela's daughters, Mary, Martha, and Bertha along with Lucy and Angela's mother María, lived with Angela on Paraguay Drive.

Maria (Mary) Angela Brown married John (Red) Denny Hayden in El Paso.

Bertha E. Brown (31) married her second husband George Ronald Ferrara (22) in El Paso, Texas, at the home of her mother Angela Brown at 5504 Paraguay. Marriage performed by Willard Whipple (Bishop of El Paso Second Ward). Witnesses were Sylvester J. Gaydash, Mary Hayden

Angela's youngest son, Aaron Brown married Jessie LaVirl Whitsell (3-31-30/ 24)

Mary and Red bought the title for Angela's house on Paraguay from Aron.

1955 September 10

Angela's mother, Maria Duran de Holguin, died at age of 79. On the way to the funeral Mary, Pauly and Angela sustained injuries in a car-truck accident near Ciudad Jiménez. Lilia did not show any injuries. The car was totaled.

1960 September 16

Bertha appointed Angela with full and complete custody of Lucy, Bertha's thirteen-year-old daughter, for nine months to live with Angela in El Paso, Texas in the converted garage apartment at 5504 Paraguay.

Lucy finishes 8^th grade at Ross Intermediate and then sent back to Michigan.

1961 c.July - September

Angela, Mary, Bunny, and Candy go to Dearborn to visit Bertha. Angela was having a hard time letting her baby daughter go. Angela falls down the stairs at Bertha's and while falling hears a voice telling her to let Martha serve a mission

Martha Gabaldón has her 21^st birthday

Martha Gabaldón leaves for her mission to the Mexican Mission.

1964 September 4

Martha marries Alan Gardner.

1967 June 20

Angela Gavaldón died at age of 66 years and ten months, in her sleep probably from a stroke.

Buried at the Evergreen Central Cemetery on Alameda in El Paso, Texas
