12 mi/20 km from Nuevo Casas Grandes, on  Chihuahua State Highway 10; 30°18'N 108°04'W

Name sake: Named in honor of Benito Juárez, a great Mexican General and President

The Saints who had settled at Colonia Juarez moved to a new townsite that had been surveyed two miles west of the first location. The first townsite was found to be outside of the land purchased by the Mormon leaders.

Town was on San Diego Ranch belonging to Don Luis Terrazas.

The first LDS Primary in Mexico was organized in the camp near Casas Grandes, Chihuahua. Hannah H. Romney was selected as president.

First LDS Y.M.M.I.A. in Mexico was organized in C.J. with Joseph Cardon as president.

Events: Town dedicated by Moses Thatcher and Snow

Orson P. Brown marries first wife Martha "Mattie" Diana Romney (1870 to 1943). This was the first marriage to take place in Colonia Juárez.

Orson P. Brown is called to be a rural police officer to catch cattle and horse thieves.

Elder Edson Whipple, on of Utah's Pioneers of 1847 died at Colonia Juarez.

Elder Hyrum Judd, a member of the Mormon Battalion died in Colonia Juarez.

Forest fires, tremors, dust, but water levels increased

At a special conference held at Colonia Juárez the settlements of the Saints in Mexico were organized as the Juarez Stake of Zion by Apostles Francis M. Lyman and George Teasdale with Anthony W. Ivins as president and Henry Eyring and Helaman Pratt as counselors.

Mary Loretta P. Teasdale, wife of Apostle George Teasdale, died at Colonia Juarez.

President Ivins meets with Mexican Governor Miguel Ahumada of Chihuahua...a courtesy call to Colonia Juárez by the Governor and his staff to the church authorities.

The man at the top far left is Bishop Wm. Derby Johnson of Colonia Diaz. to his left dressed in white is Orson Pratt Brown member of the Juarez Stake High Counsel.  Second row far left is Arwell Pierce. The fourth man in the middle row is Edmund Richardson, an attorney. Second row far right is Helaman Pratt, second counselor in Juarez Stake Presidency. Front row second man is Henry Eyring, first counselor in Juarez Stake Presidency. Next to Eyring is Chihuahua Governor Miguel Ahumada. Fourth man is Stake President Anthony "Tony" Ivins. Front row extreme right is Joaquin Cortezar, Secretary of State of Chihuahua.  Front is Ahumada's dog.

Elder Edson Whipple, one of Utah's 1847 pioneers died at Colonia Juárez.

 

Date: January 10, 1902

Henry Eyring, born March 9, 1835 in Germany.  First counselor to A. W. Ivins in the Juarez Stake., died in Colonia Juarez, Mexico

 

Date: March 21, 1903

Alexander F. MacDonald, early colonizer of the Mormon Colonies and Church veteran, died at his home in Colonia Juarez. He had been born September 11, 1825 in Scotland.

 

Date: 1910 June 9

Lemuel Hardison Redd, a pioneer of 1850, died at Colonia Juarez.

The men of Colonia Juárez brought their guns and ammunition to the bandstand where they were listed and counted by Bishop Bentley before turning them over to the rebel commander.

Orson P. Brown assigned by the Stake Presidency to obtain new weapons for the colonists.

Date: Sunday, July 26, 1912

Being left with no means of defending their families, the brethren placed their wives and children on the train and sent them to El Paso, Texas.

Junius Romney fled into mountains believing his life was in danger following threats by rebel leader Cavada.
