Harlo Brown was born on 10 Mar 1918 in Rexberg,Madison,Idaho,USA, the son of Augustus Mark Brown and Zalia Louise Virgin Brown. He was born in the covenant. He was baptized on 28 Mar 1926 in Riverdale Ward. He was endowed on 4 Feb 1938 in the Salt Lake temple.

Harlo married Rhea Lavern Orton on February 4, 1938. They had two sons, Melvin Harlo Brown and Duane Mark Brown.
Iris had been married to Mr. Capone c. 1942 and had one son, Andrew Bruce Capone. Harlo adopted Andrew after his marriage to Iris.

Andrew Bruce Capone was a son of Iris, and was adopted by Harlo Brown, after Harlo and Iris married. Melvin Harlo Brown, and Duane Mark Brown were sons of Harlo and Rhea Orton before he married Iris.

Harlo married Iris Elaine Grigg on 15 Aug 1949 in Boise,Idaho. They were sealed on 23 Jun 1950 in the Idaho Falls Idaho temple. Harlo was confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 28 Mar 1926 in Riverdale Ward. He was ordained Deacon by Augustus Mark Brown on 1 Dec 1929 in Riverdale Ward. He was ordained Teacher by S James Bingham on 26 Mar 1933 in Riverdale Ward. He was ordained Priest by W Edward Bingham on 5 May 1935 in Riverdale Ward. He was ordained Elder by Joseph H. Stimpson on 23 Jan 1938 in Riverdale Ward. He was ordained C. Walter Malan on 30 Aug 1977 in Ogden 40th ward, Weber, Utah.

Harlo Brown was a devoted father, and good husband. He loved his children, and worked selflessly all his life to provide a good home. I remember during a family home evening when we lived in Garden Grove California, Dad telling us that he hoped to make our home a place of safety and refuge from the outside world. He told me that he hoped that no matter what happened, he wanted his children to have a place to come to for safety, both now, and when we had our own families should we ever fall on hard times.

His son Paul V. Brown writes: "My dad was injured when I was about 4 years old. So most of my memories of him are when he was confined to a wheelchair. Perhaps I was closer to him than otherwise would have been possible because he was always home, and we spent much more time together than otherwise would have been possible.

He always taught us to be honest, and encouraged us to participate in the various service projects.

Dad was patient with his afflictions, though later in life he often confided in me that he was ready to go, and wished for his time on earth to be over. He had pain everyday in his stomach, because he could not get food to move through his intestines normally. I think this was due to the loss of muscle tone, and lack of the normal movement that comes from walking. Because of the poor circulation he was often cold, and his legs always felt cold to the touch. He was also plagued with pressure sores from sitting in his chair, and lying in bed. Despite his afflictions he was always cheerful, and encouraging to me. He was fun to be with and talk to.

I know that my father had a firm unshaken testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day. He loved to read the scriptures, and attend the temple. I can remember many times when we lived in Ogden, that he would get on the bus and go by himself to the temple.

I remember just a few stories he told about his childhood. He said that they had a dry farm in Dubois, Idaho. He said that they traveled to and from this farm. He said one time when they were traveling to this farm in a wagon that a washbasin fell from the wagon and they went on down the road. When they were returning they found that someone had picked it up, and set it on a fence post where it would be seen by the owner, and retrieved. I do not know what his story means, but I remember dad telling it.

I know that my dad was not in the military but he worked in a munitions plant during the war. I also know that he did go to Hawaii during the war.

When he returned he bought a ranch in Vale, Oregon. This is where some my older brothers were born. He also lived in a duplex owned by my grandfather on 4400 West in Roy, and that he owned and operated a feed store in Roy. I think some of my brothers were also born during this period in Roy. Lane and me were born after the family moved to Burley Idaho. Dad was a Farmer, and Brick mason in Burley. Dad told me that farming was a hard life, and they were never too successful because of the weather, and other hardships. He wanted to have a better life for the family, and sold the farm, and moved to California. Later Mom told me often that she always regretted leaving the home they had built in Burley, and going to California. She said she never wanted to leave Burley, but dad insisted. I do not know how Dad came to feel about the decision to leave Burley in his later years. Despite the hardships my mother faced in California after the accident. I felt like I had a good childhood, and was well provided for. I always knew that were poorer than others, but I always felt loved.

After I graduated High school, Dad moved the family to Ogden Utah were we built a brick beautiful home on Harrison blvd. My dad passed away in Ogden’s McKay Dee hospital after a lung cancer took half of one lung, and the other one collapsed during the recovering days that followed. I counted it a blessing that he was able to go on at that time, because he had suffered all those years, and was in constant pain. Though there were physical hardships, dad was blessed with the knowledge of truth that comes from the gospel of Jesus Christ. He knew the purpose of life, and fulfilled it well. He raised a large family, and will continue to have an eternal increase. He is called blessed and loved by all his posterity.

Harlo Brown died on 30 June 1993 [in Garden Grove, Orange County, California per census records and] was buried in Ogden Weber,Utah.
