John Clair Hutchens is the son of John Amos Hutchens [1862-1919] and Lois Brown [1864-?]. John A. Hutchens is the son of William Birch Hutchens [1828-1885] and Mary Eliza Stone [1837-1905]. Lois Brown is the daughter of Alexander Brown [1826-1910] and Amanda McMurty [1834-1918].
Clair had three brothers and two sisters. [Total of nine children.]
Clair met Ruby Elizabeth Spaulding and they were married on December 25, 1907 in Riverdale,Weber, Utah. Ruby was the third child of Ann Rebecca Stimpson and Ira Eugene Spaulding. Ruby was born July 8, 1886 in Uintah, Utah. Her parents moved to Riverdale when she was a child. She was educated in the Riverdale school.
Clair and Ruby made their home at 845 West Twenty-fifth Street in Ogden. They were the parents of five children.

4- Twyla May Hutchens.
5- John "Jack"Allen Hutchens.
Ruby and Clair were members of the Ogden LDS First Ward, but not active.
The Hutchens moved to Preston, Idaho in 1924, but Clair could not make a living there. They moved back to Ogden where he worked as an officer for the Ogden police department for thirty years. He was a detective the majority of the time. At the time of his death he was a detective for the pawn shop detail as city court bailiff.
Clair was a member of the Police Benefit Association and a member of the FOE, Aerie 2472, serving as a lodge officer.
Ruby suffered from headaches for a long time. She died February 7, 1928 at age 42, in Ogden, of heart trouble. She was buried in Ogden.
Twyla and Jack were sent to live with relatives, to help care for their younger cousins. Twyla said her memories of that period of time were not happy.
Norma, Lenus, and Lois took care of the house, attended school, and cared for Twyla and Jack when they would come home.
Clair married Nellie Eva Graham and all the children came home to live. Nellie was an older woman, not used to children, and could not cope with them. The chidren said that she would beat them to make them mind. Clair and Nellie divorced.
Clair married Ann Jenson November 15, 1939 in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Clair died April 23, 1953 in Ogden, at age 65, of a heart attack.
