Calvin Brown is the twin son of John Martin Brown I and Almeda Wilson Brown. Calvin and his twin brother, Alvin Wilson Brown, were born on May 29, 1866 at Wilson Lane, Ogden, Weber County, Utah.

Calvin married Emma Fredricka Haggstrom on March 18,1892. Emma was the daughter of Johannes Haggstrom (or Hagstrom) and Christina Anderson Haggstrom. The family migrated to Utah Valley from Karherning, Vastmanland, Sweden.
