Taylor, born in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahau, Mexico, in 1890. Harvey, along with his three wives, Lenora McCray Holladay, Mary Magdalene Arnesen, and Johanne Marie "Hannah" Skousen, had thirteen children, seven were sons and there are many grandsons.

Harvey Hyrum Taylor was born on June 5, 1890 at Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico the third child of Ernest Leander Taylor (1852-1917) and (3) Johanne "Hannah" Marie Skousen (1862-1912). "Hannah" is the daughter of James Jens Nielsen Skousen and Sidsel Marie Pedersen and the half-sister of Eliza Skousen Brown (Orson Pratt Brown's fourth wife).

Harvey's father, Ernest Leander Taylor, was born in San Bernardino, California, where his parents, Norman Taylor and Lydia Forbush Taylor, had been sent on a mission by Brigham Young.

Ernest's first wife, Lenora McCray Holladay died in Santaquin, Utah in1872 shortly after the birth of their only child, Ernest Guy Taylor. Ernest's second wife was Mary Magdalene Arnesen (1861-1928) of Oslo, Norway. Ernest and "Aunt Mary" had 12 or 14 children.

Harvey's predecessors on the Taylor side of the family had been on the American continent since early in the 17th century. The Skousens arrived from Denmark in the persons of James Niels Skousen and his wife Sidsel "Cecile" Pedersen Skousen, Hannah's parents. The Skousen's had joined the Mormon church in their Danish homeland and traveled to Utah and then to Mexico to settle in the Mormon colonies. It was during their trip to Utah that Hannah Marie Skousen was born in a covered wagon on the northern side of the Platte River in Nebraska on August 2, 1862.

Hannah married Ernest Leander Taylor on April 11, 1884 and traveled to Mexico with him, "Aunt Mary" and their children. Hannah's first child, Maude Mary Taylor, was born 6 June 1885, in their covered wagon upon arrival west of the Casas Grandes River at Colonia San Jose (also known as Camp Turley) in the Mexican State of Chihuahua.

When the Taylors arrived in Mexico Porfirio Diaz was the dictator of Mexico. The Diaz system of government was delegated through personal favors. Don Luis Terrazas was Diaz's Jefe Politico in Chihuahua, and his "mayordomo" was Don Jacobo Anchondo. Terrazas ranch, the "Hacienda de San Diego" and Ernest L. Taylor's ranch "El Alamito" were contiguous and Harvey was often invovled in the exchange of stray long-horned cattle.

Harvey was sensitive to the status of the Mexican peons on the large haciendas and his sympathies shifted easily to the proposals and reforms espoused by Francisco Ignacio Madero and others who followed his lead.

When Harvey was younger and became aggravating to his half-brothers they often called him the "Damn Dane" which he came to accept as complimentary since it usually referred to his unusual strength or his strict adherence to Church principles.

Harvey H. Taylor married Mary Alice Pierce (1890-1937) on October 7, 1909. Mary Alice is the daughter of Brigham Horace Pierce (1864-1944) and Martha Alice Thornton Pierce (1871-1892). They had twelve children.

After his wife's death, Harvey H. Taylor married Rhoda Clark (1896-1977) on July 29, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Rhoda is the daughter of Edward Barrett Clark (1859-1955) and Alice Randall Clark (1863-1938). They had one son, Ashton Harvey Taylor.
