In 1986 Steve Petrie felt that he needed to do something to unify the families of Orson Pratt Brown. He had a good relationship with Aron, Pauly, Gustavo, and Bertha, children of Orson and his fifth wife, Angela Gabaldon Brown. Steve's Uncle Otis Pratt Brown, among other Brown family members were having a difficult time accepting this fifth wife and family. Steve called a family meeting at his house, also Anna's home, during the Easter weekend. He invited Uncle Otis, Aron, Pauly, Gustavo, and multiple other family members.
To their credit, all attended. Aron played his guitar and sang, food was prepared and shared, and generally a good time was enjoyed by all. After the main of the attendees had left, Uncle Otis turned to Steve and said that he really liked those kids. During the evening plans were made to hold a full family reunion in December 1986, Gustavo volunteered his new big house on McDowell. Gustavo felt that as one of the oldest living members of Orson's children that he should organize the first official reunion. He sent out the following letter:
